Sustainable development and social responsibility have been part of HEINEKEN Croatia’s strategy for thirteen years, all aimed at achieving the main, most ambitious goal by 2030 – complete carbon neutrality in production.

—– Just as the world adapts to nature, HEINEKEN wants to adapt to a world that is constantly changing. The impacts of the pandemic and global volatility, along with increasing customer and consumer expectations, require us to do more than ever. Therefore, we continue to work on sustainability and responsibility by raising the bar, a little higher each time – stated Marta Bułhak, CEO of HEINEKEN Croatia.
As the company strives to achieve complete carbon neutrality in production by 2030, it is clear that most projects are directed towards achieving this ambitious goal.
In 2021, the brewery in Karlovac continued to contribute significantly, which is most evident in the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by as much as 383 tons. The brewery continues to operate using 100% electricity from renewable sources (ZelEn), and significant progress has also been made in waste management. The amount of municipal waste has been reduced by almost 41% per hectoliter of beer compared to last year.
Although women make up 46% of the total number of employees in the EU, only 36% hold positions in management. In HEINEKEN Croatia, the situation is completely different – last year, 50% of the highest governing body of the company in Croatia were women, and 43% in senior management. The company also contributes to the development of the community in which it operates, having supported the ‘KAkvart’ project for the sixth consecutive time in 2021, and, in collaboration with the City of Karlovac, helped realize about twenty social and community projects. The share of local, or domestic suppliers in 2021 was 72.73% of the total procurement value, which is extremely important for the growth of the domestic economy, the backbone of sustainability.
Another important activity is the latest edition of the educational program ‘For Responsible Youth Development’, which HEINEKEN Croatia has been conducting in collaboration with the Tesa Psychological Center for ten years. The company has consistently called for responsible and moderate consumption in advertising campaigns, as well as at all sponsored events where, alongside Heineken 0.0, Karlovačko 0.0 was also available to consumers. For the 13th consecutive year, HEINEKEN Croatia reports on everything it does regarding sustainability, both in terms of business practices and its impact on the community in which it operates.
