Mercedes-Benz plans to build a factory for fully electric vans in the southern Polish city of Jawor, the company reported.
– We will build a factory for fully electric vehicles in Jawor – said Mathias Geisen from Mercedes-Benz Vans.
This step aligns with the company’s reorganization within its European production network, “marks a new milestone in its transformation into a provider of emission-free local mobility,” the statement said.
According to statements from a press conference in Warsaw held with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the company intends to invest more than one billion euros in the factory over the next few years, which will focus on the production of fully electric vans.
– The established location allows the van division to optimize costs and the supply chain, as well as energy-efficient production of the new generation of vans. The decision on the location and specific realization of the project still depends on the final fulfillment of various framework conditions, including the allocation of investment grants for Jawor. – the company stated.
Mercedes has an engine factory in Jawor with more than 800 employees.
Meanwhile, American electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has postponed its plans for joint production of vans with Mercedes-Benz. Although the partnership was announced in September, Rivian is currently focusing on other projects, both companies reported.
