Best ‘Smart City’ Cities Announced

The competition for the selection of the smartest city in Croatia, organized by Jutarnji list, the portal Gradonačelnik.hr, and the consulting company Apsolon, took place in Opatija on December 1st, attracting the attention of numerous cities eager to showcase their innovative solutions for the development of smart cities.

Cities competed in three categories: for large, medium, and small cities, with Rijeka, Zaprešić, and Krk winning the titles. The awards for the best were presented by Minister Nataša Tramišak and Mirjana Samardžić Novoselec, a member of the management board of Apsolon, the consulting firm that developed a special methodology based on which these prestigious awards are granted.

The selection methodology is based on criteria applied to the study of the Analysis of Digital Readiness of City Administrations by Apsolon, the results of a review of publicly available data from selected relevant indicators, and the results of a survey questionnaire completed by the cities themselves. Although only three cities received the ‘Smart City’ title, this year’s competition once again proved that many of our cities are on the right path for successful urban center development.
