From tomorrow, citizens can obtain starter packs of euro coins

A month before the introduction of the euro as the official means of payment in the Republic of Croatia, citizens have been enabled to acquire starter packs of euro coins. To ensure that citizens are as prepared as possible for the use of the euro in the first days of 2023, they will be able to obtain a maximum of two starter packs of euro coins per transaction at banks, the Financial Agency, and HP-Croatian Post starting from December 1, 2022, as reported by the HNB.

The starter pack contains 33 euro coins with the Croatian national side, in all denominations and a value of 13.28 euros, and for one starter pack of euro coins, the consumer will pay an amount of 100.00 kuna.

The coins obtained in this way will be usable for payments in the country and abroad only from January 1, 2023. Namely, the euro and cent coins that have Croatian national symbols on the reverse side will only become legal tender in Croatia and the rest of the euro area.

– Ensuring the supply of euro cash and the smooth operation of payment transactions in the country are key segments of the euro introduction. The exchange of cash is a very important event for any country and its monetary system. Currently, this is certainly one of the most complex logistical projects in Croatia – stated Boris Vujčić, Governor of the Croatian National Bank.
