This Year’s Recipients of the Hrvoje Mateljić Award for Best Economic Journalists Are…

In memory of their prematurely deceased journalist Hrvoje Mateljić, Lider has been awarding prizes for the best journalistic works on the economy for the 13th consecutive year. The director of Lider Bojana Božanić Ivanović emphasized in her opening speech during the award ceremony that in these challenging times, it is more important than ever to have media that publish important and relevant content. Quality analyses and proposals are crucial for media pluralism, and the mission of this award is to contribute to economic journalism in Croatia.

The gathering was also addressed by Andrei Poliakov, director of JT International Zagreb, a long-time sponsor of the Hrvoje Mateljić Award, highlighting the importance of quality business journalism for the successful operation of entrepreneurs, especially in these difficult times.

After the opening remarks, the deputy editor-in-chief of Lider, Vanja Figenwald, presented the results of the research ‘How Economic Journalists See the Next Year?’, and a round table was held on the changes expected in the economy in 2023.

The recipient of the award for the best works on the economy published in print and digital media in 2022 is Manuela Tašler, editor and commentator at Lider, who expressed her gratitude to the jury. The award was presented to her by Iso Masato, the ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Croatia.

For the best journalistic works on the economy broadcast in electronic media (radio or TV), Željko Kardum, editor and host of the show Druga strana at Croatian Radiotelevision, was awarded, and the award was presented to him by Andrei Poliakov. He thanked the jury and Lider, especially the editor-in-chief Miodrag Šajatović, who, as he stated, has been a role model for everyone for the last 30 years.

The best young journalist under 29 years old was declared to be Matija Mlinarić from RTL television, to whom the award was presented by the director of Lider, Bojana Božanić Ivanović. He thanked his cameramen and editors.

Hrvoje Mateljić (1974 – 2008) was a professional journalist for 12 years before he tragically passed away. He covered the telecommunications sector, mergers, and acquisitions, and demonstrated the breadth of his knowledge in macroeconomic topics. In addition to preserving the memory of Hrvoje with this award, it aims to recognize colleagues who persist in high-quality and analytical journalism.
