The Bezos Earth Fund, the foundation of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has pledged one billion dollars by 2030 for environmental protection and biodiversity, according to a statement from French President Emmanuel Macron.
Macron’s office announced this after the French president participated in the first of a series of discussions at the COP27 climate summit in Egypt. The Élysée Palace added that Rwanda and Gabon expressed interest in taking steps to protect forests and natural carbon sinks at the summit.
Bezos’s philanthropic organization has so far allocated 30 percent of its 10 billion dollars for nature conservation and the transformation of food systems. The billionaire’s foundation, whose company has often been criticized for its non-ecological practices and working conditions, aims to strengthen efforts for soil restoration in coalition with African and European countries at this year’s UN summit.
