MrBeast Rejects Billion-Dollar Offer as He Recognizes the Potential of Social Platforms

Anyone who follows trends and spends time on YouTube likely knows who Jimmy Donaldson is. Okay, maybe some of you don’t know him by that name, but you certainly know who MrBeast is! The internet sensation and vlogger has managed to gather over 100 million subscribers on the most well-known video platform in just a few years of working on his social media channels.

Relatively recently, Donaldson (MrBeast) stated that he received a billion-dollar offer for a company to take over his content empire that he has been building on social media for years, but he declined it. During an appearance on the Flagrant podcast, one of the hosts, Andrew Schultz, said he was ‘shocked’ that Donaldson was not offered the craziest check in history for his content.

– I was offered something pretty crazy. There are people who could afford a billion-dollar investment to take over my channel, companies, and more – said the 24-year-old, adding that he cannot provide more details about who and where the offer came from, but that it was definitely legitimate.

Who is MrBeast?

In case you have somehow managed to avoid more information about what MrBeast posts on his YouTube channel up to this point, I will briefly explain what kind of content it is. When he has ten thousand dollars in his (virtual) wallet, he often finds a way to donate that money to someone in need while also creating a spectacular video.

He started by filming and creating funny compilations of games like Minecraft and Call of Duty, vlogs where he assesses the wealth of other YouTubers, and giving free advice to aspiring creators who had just joined the platform. After he started earning his first money from partnerships with YouTube, he began investing most of his capital into videos that generate huge amounts of traffic.

By December 2018, MrBeast had given away over a million dollars in his videos and rightfully earned the title of ‘the biggest philanthropist on YouTube’. Some of his most expensive works include a challenge where contestants had to keep their hand on a million dollars in cash, and the person who lasted the longest won that money. He also gave a million dollars to random people in stores, but they only had one minute to spend as much as they could.

One of the craziest videos I can remember is the one where he brought several people to a deserted island, and the last person remaining on the island became the owner of that island worth approximately 800,000 dollars. There were countless similar videos, but you understand what kind of creator he is.

The Flagrant hosts also asked Donaldson if he has a price in mind for his channel in case he decides to sell in the future.

– It’s so crazy that I don’t even want to say it, I’m currently in a place where I want to be. Given that we have a mobile gaming company and we have 100 million people playing it, and we have a thousand physical Beast Burgers and Feastables in 20,000 stores, it would probably be around 10 to 20 billion dollars – he said, referring to his burger restaurant chain and line of chocolates and cookies.

The Real Value is in Attention

In July, Business Insider reported that Donaldson plans to hire a developer to create a ‘mobile strategy game for iOS and Android’.

In December 2020, Donaldson launched a restaurant brand that offers delivery only, MrBeast Burger, and sold over a million sandwiches in three months. In early September 2022, MrBeast Burger opened its first physical restaurant in the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Thousands camped outside the restaurant to buy a burger from the famous YouTuber.

…And so the world went crazy over a measly billion dollars, and I think even ten billion wouldn’t be enough. Here’s the thing. People don’t get the bigger picture of what MrBeast and other creators like Emma Chamberlain, Logan Paul, or KSI are doing. These are individuals creating content and building a real community. They regularly produce quality content, attract followers, and based on their popularity, easily launch sales of merchandise, drinks, chocolates, cereals, burgers, and more.

I will conclude the text with one last thought. What MrBeast and other creators understand is that the real value is in attention, and content that genuinely builds community is how they manage to attract so much attention. Material on social media becomes the most important and achievable way to build demand for everything you want to create, and MrBeast is doing just that.
