Procurement has been operational until now, but in today’s environment it has become a strategic part of business

Before the crisis in supply chains, first caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and then the current crisis due to the war in Ukraine, procurement was an operational part, but today it has become a strategic part of every business. The procurement environment has changed, costs have risen, and relationships with suppliers have become crucial for all companies.

That is why Lider, in collaboration with the Croatian Association of Procurement Professionals, is organizing the 17th procurement conference today titled ‘Agile Procurement – Protector of Business’, during which speakers and representatives of the procurement profession will exchange knowledge and experiences.

– The goal of the association is to expand and unite the network of suppliers in Croatia and the region, and the vision is to enhance the reputation of the procurement function. We are very pleased that with the support of Lider we are working on maintaining and organizing an annual conference like today’s, for which we see increasing interest – said Mirela Senica, president of HUND, in the opening part of the conference, which this year marks 18 years of operation.

The important role of procurement in companies was highlighted by Marina Lindič, president of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM).

– As procurement professionals, we need to demonstrate our work results, so they are recognized and procurement, if it is not already, becomes a strategic function in every company. Let us show what we know and what our impact is on the business of every enterprise – said Lindič.

IFPSM is a global platform in the field of procurement and supply chains that enables members to develop professionally, as well as connect and exchange best practices. Every year, says Lindič, their goal is to bring additional value to their members.

– There are many challenges ahead of us. It is expected that we will achieve the same results with 30 percent of resources as we do with 100 percent. Without innovations, if we do not leverage the specific knowledge of our suppliers and bring them into our companies in a timely manner, we cannot be market leaders and competition can overtake us. Therefore, this should now be our focus – added Lindič.

Every previous procurement conference has been thematically focused and addressed specific aspects of procurement, and this year’s conference therefore focuses on agile procurement as a protector of business.
