Employees No Longer Consider Salary and Bonuses, nor Advancement Opportunities as Most Important

LQ, a company engaged in employee development, culture, and management systems in enterprises across the region, while promoting innovative learning methods in the business environment, conducted a study on the topic of the work environment as part of the 10th edition of the leading regional conference on human resources, HR Days, held on September 21 and 22 in Rovinj. The study involved 115 participants, conference attendees (HR professionals, managers, and consultants in the field of human resources).

They were interested in what is important to people in their workplace and the organization they are in, and the subject of the investigation was 15 factors from the work environment: autonomy, regular feedback, purpose and my role, advancement opportunities, work-life balance, company prosperity, salary and bonuses, remote work/flexible working hours, education, small joys (paid lunch, teambuilding, games), supervisor access, interpersonal relationships, recognition, communication, aesthetics of space, and more.

– According to the survey results, interpersonal relationships make respondents the happiest. This tells employers that today’s employees want to feel comfortable with their colleagues at work. At the same time, employees want to see personal purpose in everything, and right behind that, work-life balance is very important to them – said Spomenka Žepec, LQ Partner, Assessment & Coach.

The Greatest Motivation

For the participants of the study, the greatest motivation is purpose and personal role.

– Purpose can be explained as our personal set of goals and guidelines that lead us to a meaningful life. The feeling that we are creating something good for ourselves and others, that we are contributing to our environment – added Žepec.

In second place is the possibility of advancement, and respondents find supervisor access very important when it comes to motivation.

The largest number of participants, when asked what they want to experience in their workplace, responded that they want to experience the prosperity of the company they work for. They also consider work-life balance important in this case, as well as recognition for their work and performance.

Leaving the Company

When it comes to the reason for leaving the company, the lack of adequate supervisor access is the top reason, and the importance of leadership and relationships is enormous, as the research results show.

A company cannot prosper without good leadership and cannot be attractive for hiring if it does not have good leadership. HR managers, nor HR departments can invent additional tools to retain employees if the company’s leadership is not adequate.

In that case, it is possible to hire quality employees, but not to retain them, is the conclusion of the research conducted by LQ.
