One of the leading toy manufacturers, Mattel, paid tribute to the legendary American singer Tina Turner by creating a Barbie doll in her likeness. Although Tina has made significant contributions to the global music industry, and thus a reason for such an initiative is not actually necessary, Mattel decided to launch the doll on the 40th anniversary of her hit “What’s Love Got To Do With It.” Barbie Tina Turner has thus become part of the Barbie Signature Music Series, and her outfit is inspired by the music video for the aforementioned song – a black mini dress paired with a denim jacket.
An Inspirational Journey
The American musician expressed her gratitude to Mattel through social media, stating that it is a great honor for her Barbie to join the ranks of great names, female pioneers previously represented in the collection, and that she is pleased that children will learn about her life journey. The eight-time Grammy winner, as reported by Reuters, enjoyed immense success performing with her (former) husband Ike Turner, as well as during her solo career. She held her last tour in 2009, and in November 2019, she attended the premiere of the Tina Turner musical on Broadway, which tells the story of her work and life.
