One of the most famous perfumes of all time, L’Heure Bleu, celebrates a full 110 years of existence, and the French house Guerlain has decided to commemorate this anniversary with a special edition.
As part of the Exceptional Creations collection, they will sell the L’Heure Bleu extract packaged in a recognizable bottle, with a cap shaped like an inverted heart, but for this occasion, in the renowned International Klein Blue (IKB) color, a shade of blue patented by artist Yves Klein in 1960.
The fragrance was created in 1912 by Jacques Guerlain, who wished to suspend time, to capture the atmosphere just after sunset in a bottle, or as he poetically described it, ‘the moment when the night has not yet found its star.’
The perfumer’s family
This delicate floral scent, which many affectionately call one of the most beautiful and complex ever created, opens with notes of aromatic anise and fresh bergamot notes, followed by clove and neroli that add a touch of sensuality. In its base, there are scents of violet, iris, sweet vanilla, and tonka bean. The creator of L’Heure Bleu comes from a family of renowned French perfumers. His uncle, Pierre-Francois Pascal Guerlain, created perfumes for rulers, while his cousin Aimé is behind the first modern fragrance, Jicky from 1889, which was the first perfume with natural ingredients and aldehydes. After L’Heure Bleu and Mitsouko, Jacques created Shalimar in 1925, which is considered the first oriental perfume created in Europe. The anniversary bottle containing the ‘blue night’ extract is the richest, most concentrated, and also the most expensive version. The Guerlain company has released only 30 bottles of 1.5 liters, which can be purchased for £13,500.
