ZSE: Crobex indices rose by more than 1.5 percent last week

Last week on the Zagreb Stock Exchange , stock indices rose by more than 1.5 percent, moving away from their lowest levels in approximately a year and a half, but with thin trading volume, indicating investor caution as interest rates are rising globally and economic growth is slowing.

The Crobex index increased by 1.63 percent last week, reaching 1,937 points, marking a rise after two weeks of decline. It recovered from its lowest level since the end of April 2021, which it recorded at the beginning of the week.

The Crobex10 index rose by 1.51 percent to 1,144 points, marking its first gain after five weeks of decline. It moved away from its lowest level since February 2021, which it fell to at the beginning of the week.

Among sector indices, the Crobextransport saw the highest increase, up by 6.48 percent, while the only decline was recorded by Crobexkontrukt, down by 1.97 percent.

Regular trading in shares amounted to only 19 million kuna, which is 41.5 million less than the previous week.

The highest trading volume was recorded by the shares of Podravka, at 3.7 million kuna. Its price jumped by 5.4 percent to 584 kuna. Following was the share of Atlantska plovidba with a trading volume of 1.9 million kuna, with its price rising by 4.62 percent to 408 kuna.

Investors also focused on the shares of Zagrebačka banka and Valamar Riviera, which achieved slightly more than 1.8 million kuna. The share of Zagrebačka banka decreased by 2.17 percent to 63 kuna, while Valamar Riviera increased by 1.38 percent to 29.4 kuna.

The biggest gainers among the more liquid stocks were the shares of Jadroplov, with a price jump of 18.75 percent to 66.5 kuna, and Alpha Adriatica, up by 11.22 percent to 109 kuna.

The biggest loser among the liquid stocks was the share of Končar EI, with a price drop of 2.3 percent to 850 kuna.

Last week, a total of 50 stocks were traded on the ZSE, with the price of 32 rising, 12 falling, and six remaining stable. Thus, the Crobex indices last week followed the rise of stock indices on the largest global capital markets, but trading was uncertain as central banks worldwide are raising interest rates due to high inflation, which slows down economic growth.
