Index Among the Most Innovative Media in Croatia: Google Supported Them with Over One Million Kuna

Index.hr is on the list of winners of the prestigious Google Innovation Challenge, which was held for the first time in Europe. This is Google’s initiative that encourages innovative projects and ideas in the media industry, and Index’s project was selected as one of the best among over 600 submissions from 38 European countries.

Thus, Index has become the only media outlet from Croatia to win funding in this year’s Google competition and has been recognized as 'one of 47 media innovators in Europe'. The amount of funding is one million and one hundred fifty thousand kuna.

This year’s competition lasted from April to September and is a continuation of Google’s Innovation Fund initiative, which has mostly been won by the most prestigious European publishers such as Reuters, the French L'Equipe and Le Parisien, the Italian Corriere Della Sera, the British Telegraph and The Times, the German Spiegel, and others.

Index’s project concerns innovations in the field of content personalization and UX on portals, and is particularly interesting in the context of preparing publishers for the imminent disappearance of third-party cookies and the potential negative effects this will have on digital media.

The goal of this project is to demonstrate that personalization can work even in smaller markets like Croatia and that the technology we are developing can have a strong impact not only on the future of Index but also on the entire media landscape in Croatia and the region.
