From the beginning of the pandemic until the first quarter of 2022, Denmark spent approximately 16.1 billion budget euros, or 120 billion kroner, according to a report published on Monday by the Danish national statistics agency.
The money spent on healthcare institutions, which covered the costs of vaccination, testing, and treatment, accounts for 28 percent of that amount. On the other hand, economic support packages make up 68 percent of these expenses.
Compared to other countries, Denmark, with its six million inhabitants, heavily relied on testing during the early stages of the pandemic. These tests ultimately cost around 2.3 billion euros (17.8 billion kroner) or more than half of the money spent on healthcare. The vaccination program cost approximately 873 million euros (6.4 billion kroner).
