In Croatia, during 2021, the construction of 12,514 apartments was completed, which is 4.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
The average usable area of an apartment was 94.9 square meters. Most apartments, 92 percent, were built as new construction, 7.4 percent through extensions or upgrades of existing buildings, and 0.6 percent through the conversion of non-residential space into apartments.
By counties, the most apartments were completed in the City of Zagreb, with 2,623, followed by Zadar County with 2,275 apartments and Split-Dalmatia with 1,800 apartments.
A total of 6,071 buildings were constructed, 5.7 percent more than in 2021.
Last year, according to DZS data, 6,071 buildings were also constructed, which is 5.7 percent more than the year before. The total area of all these buildings amounted to 2.46 million square meters, which is 0.2 percent less than in 2021.
Of the total number of buildings completed last year, 5,007 or 82.5 percent were residential, and 1,064 or 17.5 percent were non-residential, with the latter category including buildings for agricultural activities, religious ceremonies, hotels, shops, as well as industrial buildings and warehouses, and buildings for transport and communications, such as public and private garages.
By counties, the most buildings, 856, were completed in Zadar County, followed by Istria County with 819 buildings, Split-Dalmatia with 573, etc.
