The City of Kutina has been granted funding for a project titled NEW STEM Kutina – ABC of the Future. The approved funding amount is 100%, totaling 6,807,945.60 kuna, of which 3,790,259.06 kuna will be spent on equipment for the primary schools in Kutina.
The project is financed through the Call „Strengthening STEM Skills in Primary Schools and Developing Regional Scientific Centers for Primary Education in the STEM Field“. The funds are secured through the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area of Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway under the Local Development and Poverty Reduction Program.
The City of Kutina is the project holder, and the partners in the project are the Development Agency Mrav, all 5 primary schools in Kutina (OŠ Stjepana Kefelje, OŠ Vladimira Vidrića, OŠ Mate Lovraka, OŠ Zvonimira Franka, OŠ Banova Jaruga), the Faculty of Teacher Education in Rijeka, the Modeling Center Kutina, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, and the University College Volda (VUC) – a public university of applied sciences from the donor country Norway.
NEW STEM Kutina – ABC of the Future is a project that includes numerous activities to be implemented over 21 months.
The project focuses on STEM areas of mathematics, technology, and engineering to prepare students for successful continuation of education at the secondary school level and aims to equip them for the challenges of a technologically advanced modern society.
The general objective of the project is to improve the capacity of primary education in the City of Kutina by equipping 5 STEM classrooms, raising STEAM skills of 100 teachers and other educational workers, and 600 students in 5 primary schools, along with enhancing their abilities in the application of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in education, developing active citizenship, and fostering entrepreneurship.
The expected results of the project will include 3 outcomes, which are:
- Enhanced STEM skills of 100 teachers and other educational workers and 600 students in 5 primary schools in the City of Kutina
- Established and equipped 5 modern STEM classrooms in 5 primary schools in the City of Kutina
- Improved skills of 100 teachers and other educational staff, as well as skills of 600 students, including 30 students with special needs in the application of ICT in learning, developing active citizenship, and fostering entrepreneurship.
