Do you want heated seats in your new, visually perfect and technologically advanced BMW? No problem, but from now on you have to subscribe to that service. It is no longer enough to simply request that equipment when ordering the vehicle and press a button; those days are behind us. Although people still cannot believe BMW’s decision and find it incredible that the automotive industry is introducing subscription business models, day by day more markets for heated seats in new BMWs are asking for $18 per month or $180 per year. So, who likes it… And BMW is not the only one playing with a new business model – Tesla has had its own subscriptions for years, and other car manufacturers are considering it as well. Why is the subscription model a wet dream for every entrepreneur? Ksenija Puškarić writes in this week’s topic.
Will DORH and USKOK prove the crime in INA worth more than a billion kuna? The question is not trivial because no matter how strong the evidence (at least those we know of) is, it is questionable whether all criminals in that company will be exposed, as many scandals involving big fish remain unresolved. Or, at best, they have been resolved by peeling potatoes. We have reason to doubt that the crime committed in INA was carried out only by the fourth managerial echelon, and that no one else had any idea about it. Perhaps this is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of law enforcement in our country. Citizens have become accustomed to seeing that after pompous arrests and media shaming of suspects, the accused of alleged economic crimes ultimately receive either almost symbolic penalties or are simply acquitted. Edis Felić writes about economic crime and bad laws.
