In July, Employment Increased by 1.6 Percent

In Croatia, there were 1.63 million employed in July, which is 1.6 percent more than in the same month last year and 1.1 percent more than in June, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.

According to recently published data from the CBS, there were slightly more than 1.74 million active residents in Croatia in July, which is 1.2 percent more than in June and 0.5 percent more than in July last year. The number of unemployed was 109.6 thousand, which represents a monthly increase of 3.6 percent, while compared to July 2021, their number decreased by 13 percent.

The registered unemployment rate in July was 6.3 percent, having increased slightly by 0.2 percentage points compared to June.

The majority of the employed, specifically 1.4 million, were employed in legal entities in July, which is one percent more than in the previous month and 1.5 percent more than in July last year. There were 215 thousand employed in crafts and freelance professions in July, which is 1.7 percent more than in June and 1.5 percent more than in the same month last year. The number of insured employees in agriculture was 18.66 thousand, which is 0.1 percent more compared to the previous month and 0.2 percent more than last year.

According to CBS data on the number of employees in legal entities, in July this year, the number of employees increased in 13 out of 19 activities compared to June. The manufacturing industry remains in first place by the number of employees with 229.6 thousand, which is a monthly increase of 0.2 percent, while it is 0.9 percent less on an annual basis.

In trade, 211.8 thousand people were employed in March, which is 0.9 percent less than in June and 0.1 percent more than in the same month last year. 

The education sector ranks third in the number of employees with nearly 123 thousand, which is 0.8 percent less than in the previous month and 2.1 percent more than a year earlier.

The largest increase in employment on a monthly and annual basis was achieved in the accommodation and food service activities. Thus, in July, the number of employees in this sector reached 96.7 thousand, which is 9.7 percent more than in June and 14.9 percent more than in July a year earlier.
