The government, at its meeting on Thursday made a decision to construct the Zlobin – Bosiljevo gas pipeline and increase the capacity of the LNG terminal on Krk to 6.1 billion cubic meters of gas per year, with a total investment value reaching 180 million euros.
– This is a strategic decision as we are doubling the capacities of the LNG terminal on the island of Krk, and we are also moving forward with the construction of a new gas pipeline, all to enhance the security of gas supply in the Republic of Croatia, but also to position ourselves as a leader in the new distribution of cards when it comes to energy in this part of Europe – stated the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Davor Filipović.
The total investment value amounts to 180 million euros, of which 25 million is intended for the expansion of LNG capacity alone, and 155 million euros for the expansion of the gas network.
To finance the investment, European funds will be maximally utilized, with, of course, support from the state budget, Filipović noted.
That this is a strategic and important decision for energy security and gas supply in Croatia was also emphasized by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, highlighting the importance of the role of Plinacro, as well as the use of measures from the REPowerEU plan.
He assessed that Croatia is thus becoming a regional energy hub when it comes to the quality use of the liquefied natural gas terminal.
As an interesting fact, he pointed out Germany, which currently has no LNG terminal, and two such terminals, which are expected to be built by 2024, will together have a capacity of 13 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
This means that one of our terminals practically represents half the capacity of one Germany, noted the Prime Minister.
