Software company Q is among the best in the world, increasing revenue and number of employees by 50 percent

Despite the significant uncertainty that accompanied the founding of software company Q, as both founders Dalibor Jurgec and Filip Ljubić had two children each and large loans, they did not want to give up on their intention. After its establishment in 2013, they continued to work for other employers and occasionally took on jobs for Q, until two years later they fully committed to their company. Over the nine years of its existence, Q reached a revenue of 100 million kuna and 300 employees last year. Ljubić expects that this year revenue will grow to over 150 million kuna, and he is considering hiring at least 150 more employees. Due to exceptional growth, the well-known ranking platform Clutch has ranked Q among the 15 best software companies in the world for the last two years.

Big Clients

They develop complex software solutions for clients in the automotive, pharmaceutical, financial, and media sectors, as well as trade, telecommunications, and insurance. At Q, clients usually come for strategic workshops that last no more than five days, during which the details of what clients want are determined. After that, Q creates applications, online stores, or something else of their choice, for example, they created Times Expert Traveler for the British The Times, an online portal where users can design their vacation as they wish.

– For the BBC, we created the Pandemic App with the University of Cambridge, an application that simulates the spread of deadly viruses, which reached the top spot on Apple and Google Play before the spread of the coronavirus even began. Along with the BBC and Times, our clients now also include Novartis, Manpower Group, Smart, Vaillant, and Hilti. Our start was actually difficult, but we soon realized that the companies we collaborated with in Los Angeles, Washington, and Luxembourg valued us highly, and we decided to capitalize on that. In the first phase, we did not have significant revenues, but we decided to put all our cards on Q, after which we worked for global companies like Volkswagen and Facebook. For Volkswagen, we developed the See More application, which allows the customer to point their phone at any VW model and get all the information about the vehicle, as well as the ability to view the car in augmented reality from the outside and inside. For  Facebook, we worked on the onboarding application for employees. These are projects we worked on in the very beginning and which served as excellent references for us going forward – emphasizes Ljubić.

Opening Offices in Europe

However, the most fateful moment for Q was the business trip to Dubai when Jurgec and Ljubić

managed to secure four new projects without which Ljubić believes Q probably would not exist. They were not large projects, but they were extremely beneficial for the company as they began to grow and work with clients from all over the world. Today, Q is present in 22 markets, including Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, the United States, and Saudi Arabia.

– We recently opened an office in London, and we want to launch another office, this time in Zurich, which we will start next year. This would give us two strong offices in Europe, which would help us position ourselves in the global market as a very high-quality provider of IT services. In all of this, we have not forgotten about our employees, so currently, as many as 87 percent of our employees have the status of company promoters – emphasized Ljubić.
