Exactly three years ago, the language learning app – Duolingo, announced that Valyrian is being learned by as many as 1.2 million of its users, who have access to over two thousand words, as well as the opportunity to participate in a haiku competition in Dothraki and Valyrian.
These are, of course, the languages invented for the series Game of Thrones by American linguist David J. Peterson, which appeared on Duolingo during the peak popularity of the series.
The partnership between the producers of Game of Thrones, David J. Peterson, and Duolingo continues, and as they announced in their statement, the platform has enhanced the course with 150 new words. This news arrived concurrently with the release of a new trailer for the series House of Dragon, which takes place about two hundred years before the events of the Game of Thrones saga.
Sentences in Valyrian
However, unlike that popular saga where Daenerys Targaryen spoke fluent Valyrian, in House of Dragon, this fantasy language is alive and spoken by many more characters. Peterson stated to American media that he hopes the series will last longer than one season, thus encouraging even more users to want to learn this exceptional language.
Until then, in addition to learning new words on Duolingo, fans can also learn new sentences. Specifically, the course includes as many as 700 sentences that are directly related to the plot of House of Dragon, and during the airing, they hope to increase that number. By the way, the series House of Dragon will premiere on the HBO platform on August 21.
The first season will contain ten episodes, with a production budget estimated at 20 million dollars per episode, which is double the average budget of Game of Thrones episodes.
