The Spanish energy company Acciona Energia announced on Monday the construction of two wind farm parks in Croatia, which will generate electricity from wind for approximately 60,000 households.
One park is to be built in the area of Split, and the other between Šibenik and Knin, for which nearly 100 million euros will be spent.
– These parks will have a total of 16 wind turbines that will produce 203 GWh of clean electricity annually, which is equivalent to the demand from about 60,000 households – stated Acciona.
– Once these parks start operating in 2024, an annual emission of 135,000 tons of CO2 will be avoided – added the Madrid-based company.
These two projects have been named Opor and Boraja II.
Acciona won this job as part of a public tender issued by the Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE), a company established in 2005 that promotes the production of electricity from renewable sources, and the Croatian government. The contract is concluded for 12 years.
Acciona began working in the Split area in 2013 on the local project Jelinak.
The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, promotes the use of renewable energy sources in its 27 member states.
