Aircash on the Future of Digital Payments in the EU

The leading association for digital payments in the EU (The European Digital Payments Industry Alliance – EDPIA) gathered yesterday afternoon in Brussels at the conference Payments Transformed: A Better Deal for Citizens (Payments Transformed: A Better Deal for Citizens) to bring together key representatives from the financial industry and European umbrella policies aimed at developing a single market for digital payments across the European Union.

The conference was held at a top European level, featuring numerous representatives from prominent European companies and European commissioners: Paolo Gentiloni (European Commissioner for Economy), Thierry Breton  (European Commissioner for Internal Market), Paolo Bertoluzzo (Nexi Group CEO), Bo Nilsson (Board Member of Nexi Group and Nets Group Chairman), Gilles Grapinet (Worldline CEO), and many others.

On this occasion, Hrvoje Ćosić, Aircash CEO, participated in a panel discussing the most important topics in digital payments, such as the potential revision of the Payment Services Directive (PSD2), open banking and finance, instant payments, and central bank digital currency (CBDC) issues, alongside Eric Ducoulombier (European Commission), Holger Neuhaus (European Central Bank), Rito Camporeale (European Banking Federation), and Jean Allix (BEUC – European Consumer Organization).

During the panel, Hrvoje Ćosić also commented on the possible revision of the PSD2 directive as the overarching act governing payment services in the EU.

– The goal of the PSD2 revision should aim to create a harmonized EU market and payment environment in the EU. On one hand, it should encourage innovation and the development of EU companies, but on the other hand, it should enable transparency and equal conditions for competition with large technology companies on a global scale – said Ćosić.
