The ranking of the 1000 largest companies in Croatia has never been as exciting to read as this year’s, created based on financial reports for the past year processed by Fina. Riding on the wave of rising energy prices, increasing personal consumption, exports, and tourism, and partially due to inflation growth in the second half of last year, the ‘bar’ for entering this prestigious list of the largest companies by revenue has been raised by about twenty million kuna. Last year, companies with revenues of around one hundred million kuna were at the bottom of the list; now, at the thousandth position, is the company Hidrocom with 123 million kuna in revenue in 2021.
At the very top, among the ten largest, there are not many changes in their ranking compared to last year’s list, but the changes in their revenues in 2021, compared to the pandemic year of 2020, are enormous. The largest Croatian company remains Ina, which had a revenue growth of over 57 percent last year, reaching 22.3 billion kuna in revenue, thereby breaking its own record of 21.9 billion kuna dating back to 2018.
Despite this, Ina is no longer so sovereign, being several billion kuna (and in some previous years, it was about ten billion!) ahead of the second-placed company. As the energy situation in the world last year favored the revenue growth of Ina, it also significantly impacted the revenue growth of Prvo plinarsko društvo (PPD), which ended last year with revenue slightly above 21 billion kuna, thus finding itself in second place on the ranking of the 1000 largest for the first time. PPD had a revenue growth of as much as 115 percent, or 11.3 billion kuna. However, when it comes to profit before tax, PPD with 320 million kuna lags far behind Ina, which recorded over one and a half billion kuna.
