HGK Presents Index of Construction Material Prices

At the 18th session of the Assembly of the Croatian Chamber of Economy in the newly renovated council chamber, a Decision was made on the amendment and supplement of the Price List of special services and products of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, with special attention devoted to the Index of construction material prices as well as Reports on the index of producer prices in the industry and the movement of raw material prices on global material exchanges.

– These indices are extremely important for solving the problem of rising material prices and the realization of construction works – said the president of HGK Luka Burilović today at the session, emphasizing that this year has brought various changes in the institution, including changes in the composition of the Assembly.

Due to the significant rise in construction material prices in the market, entrepreneurs are facing million-dollar losses even though all jobs were completed within the set deadline. In October 2020, the first price disruption occurred when PVC became more expensive, followed by steel, wood, and brick products.

– Therefore, HGK has established a methodology and indices for the movement of wholesale prices of construction materials. These indices prepared by the chamber will enable clients to implement procedures for recognizing price differences and continue the implementation of infrastructure projects – said Mirjana Čagalj, advisor to the president of HGK for construction and transport, adding that the document with the final results of the working group will serve as a basis for all clients to recognize price differences.

Recently, there has been constant discussion about the current issues and challenges faced by everyone due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Burilović touched on these topics as well.

– In order to ensure a strong, resilient, and long-term sustainable Croatian economy, the key areas of our work will be related to the future of work and the competitiveness of human resources, EU policies and the introduction of the euro, internationalization, as well as sustainable development and green transition, which have proven to be more important than ever during this period – he said.

Of course, Burilović began the session with a report on the operations of the Croatian Chamber of Economy for the past year, highlighting the organization of 24 delegations abroad, the organization of member participation in 14 foreign fairs, support for 55 domestic fairs and events, as well as 404 educational events.

He also mentioned 41 projects carried out by HGK worth 32 million kuna, co-financed by European Union funds, as well as the digital platform.

At the Assembly session, a new business relationship manager was introduced, so each HGK member who pays a membership fee will have their own manager who will best meet their needs and be available, and plans for the future operations of HGK were also discussed.
