Better than anyone, artificial intelligence (AI) can describe any poop, pardon, feces. This is what advocates of the Dieta Mobile app claim, which uses AI for more accurate feces descriptions, according to a clinical trial presented at the recently held 'Digestive Disease Week' conference in San Diego.
For the Motherboard portal, lead researcher Dr. Mark Pimentel described how app users learn what is normal by photographing their poop, but the images are not saved on devices but directly in the program – for hygiene reasons, of course.
AI then categorizes the feces into one of seven categories according to the Bristol Stool Scale (BSS), a recognized diagnostic tool. Researchers compared the results reported by patients to doctors and the results generated by AI with the 'gold standards' produced by two expert gastroenterologists. It turned out that the descriptions generated by AI were more accurate.
The app’s creators are now fervently working on promoting its version intended for doctors. They stated that the app also has a GPS feature that allows doctors to track every command of the patient’s intestines. So even if things get tight and the patient urgently needs a restroom while, for example, traveling or in a meeting, the app will reveal it. Such are the benefits that progress in the 21st century brings: technology has truly penetrated deeply into healthcare.
