The leading destination management company in Croatia and the region Uniline began opening new and distant markets over 10 years ago, including the South Korean market, which is one of the fastest-growing outbound tourist markets in the world. Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, guests from this part of the world have not visited Croatia. However, this weekend, after a two-year pandemic period, the first tourists from South Korea, 24 in total, arrived at Zagreb’s Franjo Tuđman Airport, accompanied by a guide. They will visit Zagreb, Plitvice, Šibenik, Split, and Dubrovnik during their trip.
– The arrival of the first Asian tourists in Croatia is a good sign for this year’s tourist season, as evidenced by the increased interest from this market in the last 2 weeks, given that a larger number of groups have been confirmed to visit our country in May, June, and even July. Considering the interest and the state of reservations, we can already expect the return of tourist traffic from South Korea to the levels of 2019, and potentially even a larger number – emphasized Boris Žgomba, CEO of Uniline.
The programs for Korean and other Asian groups whose arrival in Croatia has been announced for this summer include several Croatian destinations that they will visit over seven to ten days. In 2019, over 400,000 tourists from South Korea visited Croatia, achieving over 511,000 overnight stays. Before the pandemic, guests from South Korea were the second largest group of foreign visitors to the City of Zagreb.
