Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević stated that the deadline for the new waste collection service remains July 1 for now, and since the deadline is ambitious and public procurement is still ongoing, the date will be extended if necessary.
– Everything is in process, for now, the deadline remains July 1, and if it needs to be extended, we will do that. We are working as fast as we can – said Tomašević at the presentation of the project Digitalization of the Municipal Waste Collection System in Zagreb and the project of above-ground boxes for waste collection.
The digitalization project has been implemented as part of a new method of collecting municipal waste, and all containers have been geolocated and connected to users.
– We found ourselves in a situation where we did not have data on how many containers we have and where they are located. Now we have mapped where hundreds of thousands of containers are located – emphasized Tomašević.
A field application has also been developed to assist Cleanliness employees, and mapping of potential locations in the strict city center has been done, where underground containers are planned to be built.
Tomašević also presented the appearance of standardized boxes in which waste will be disposed of by citizens who do not have the option of keeping containers on their own property, but emphasized that the goal is to have as few of them as possible.
– For now, we have 4,000 applications from co-owners of buildings who need the installation of standardized boxes – emphasized Tomašević, reminding that one of the prerequisites for implementing the new decision, which individualizes the cost of waste collection, is supervision over one’s own containers.
He stated that public procurements for standardized bags for mixed municipal waste, as well as for underground containers, are still ongoing, so the overall cost of adapting the infrastructure to the new decision cannot yet be estimated.
Tomašević also announced that Cleanliness will increase the frequency of plastic collection starting next week, so instead of every two weeks, it will be collected every week.
The head of the Cleanliness branch, Davor Vić, addressed the problems in the Cleanliness branch and announced the hiring of workers.
– We have daily problems with waste collection at certain locations. We ask our users and employees for patience – emphasized Vić.
He announced that Cleanliness will proceed with new hiring of operational workers, as the process of determining surplus workers in the Holding is completed, and out of more than 400 workers who were surplus, only five expressed a desire to work in the field.
– We will proceed with additional hiring. First, so that existing workers can use their unused annual leave, but also to renew our workforce – emphasized Vić.
