If you are one of those who have decided to buy an electric car, you are probably most interested in the range of individual models. With one charge, you need to get from point A to point B, and the concern about range is very real for electric car drivers. This concern can often be seen on highways where ‘electric cars’ are patched up from trucks, driving around a hundred and lurking for gas stations equipped with electric chargers.
Although there are relatively few electric vehicles on the market compared to traditional fossil fuel guzzlers, there is a wide range between electric vehicles with the longest and shortest ranges.
At the very top of the spectrum is Lucid Air Dream, which has enough ‘juice’ to travel 836 kilometers before all its batteries are depleted. On the other end of the table is the electric Mini SE, which covers only 114 kilometers.
Why do the ranges of electric vehicles differ around the world?
If you have ever looked at the range of electric vehicles in different parts of the world, you may have noticed that the numbers do not match. For example, in the United States, the Long Range Tesla Model 3 offers a range of up to 576 kilometers, but that number increases to 601 kilometers in the United Kingdom. This is because there is no single global standard for testing the range of cars, and different regions calculate range and mileage in different ways. The idea is that, since driving habits around the world vary, testing should reflect the situations drivers will actually find themselves in. In the U.S., this testing is set by EPA, while in Europe and some other parts of the world, it is done according to Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test procedure (WLTP).
Otherwise, WLTP testing is said to be inaccurate because it overestimates range by about 10 percent, which would explain why European range estimates are higher than those published in the U.S. However, regardless of the specifics, the EPA testing cycle is generally considered more accurate, so the numbers listed below are based on that.
Lucid Air Dream Edition – range up to 836 km
The company from Newark, California, which has been around since 2007, is behind this car. The bad news is that this model has been sold out for months, but anyone with enough money can buy another model, the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which has a slightly smaller range – 830 km. The difference of six kilometers is not the end of the world, but the price of this car is $139,000. However, range is not all that Lucid Air offers. The Dream Edition Range has up to 1,111 horsepower and reaches 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds.

Tesla Model S – range up to 651 km
The Tesla Model S Plaid may be the current leading model, but the standard Model S still has the advantage in range. The Tesla Model S is one of the best electric cars for long-distance driving if you know where every charging station is on your route. The Model S also comes with autopilot as standard equipment. Its top speed is 249 km/h, and it reaches 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds.

The cheapest Tesla model on the market also comes with some of the longest ranges. The Model 3 Long Range offers up to 576 km of driving on a single charge. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range has a top speed of 233 km/h and reaches 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.
