Globalization, historically speaking, moves in cycles, and it seems that the world is heading into an uncomfortable period of stagnation in which smaller interest blocks or specific alliances will be formed, and some form of economic self-sufficiency will dominate. Shortening supply chains will bring some advantages to certain sectors of the economy and a certain stability, but at the same time, in most cases, it will mean higher prices for final products, reduced availability, less choice, and sometimes even lower quality. History is regularly a process, rarely an event, which is a fact that often eludes human perception prone to understanding it through specific dates, although events are most often just the culmination of long-term, incremental changes and the last station behind which a different landscape follows. It is always ungrateful to declare ‘the end of an era’, as vividly demonstrated by the case of American political scientist Francis Fukuyama, who once proclaimed the end of history itself, but sometimes the quantity of indications clearly suggests a significant change in the air. Has globalization started to reverse? Vanja Figenwald. found out.

Unlike Germany or the U.S. state of New York, where there are mechanisms to prevent unjustified price increases, in Croatia, no body has such authority. No one can stop or control the price jump. For this to happen in Croatia, i.e., to punish an entrepreneur for abusing a dominant position, the AZTN must first conduct a legal and economic analysis and determine that excessive prices are indeed the result of abusive conduct. Antonija Knežević. writes about price increases.
