One 'tweet' was enough to trigger an avalanche of support for Ukrainian citizens in a rather inventive way. After one user posted a reservation confirmation for accommodation in Kyiv on Twitter, which, of course, they do not plan to use but rather to financially assist the apartment owner, other users decided to do the same and started booking apartments through Airbnb, thus directly sending money to Ukrainian citizens. This initiative moved from Twitter to other social platforms and also prompted Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky to waive the fee that the company usually charges for mediation between tourists and accommodation owners.

As reported by Business Insider, in a conversation with seven people who decided to help Ukrainians in this way, they learned that they were motivated by the fact that this is one of the fastest and safest ways for financial assistance to reach those who need it. In addition to supporting the informal action of its users worldwide, Airbnb has also provided accommodation for 100,000 refugees from Ukraine. This is not the first time the company has engaged in addressing refugee crisis issues – last year, they provided accommodation for 30,000 refugees from Afghanistan.
