Rumors that Netflix plans a serious entry into the mobile gaming market have been confirmed by the Finnish company specializing in mobile game development – Next Games. As they confirmed to foreign media, negotiations are underway with the streaming giant for the acquisition of Next Games for 65 million euros. According to Michael Verdu, the vice president in charge of games at Netflix, Next Games has excellent results when it comes to developing mobile franchise games and very solid operational capabilities.

– I am confident that we will create a portfolio of top-notch games with Next Games that will delight users around the world – said Verdu, who plans to finalize the deal with the Finns by the end of the second quarter of this year.
Next Games is behind the game ‘Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales’ which is based on the Netflix-produced series of the same name, and they also created the games ‘The Walking Dead: Our World’ and ‘The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land’.
With this move, Netflix follows the example of Sony, Microsoft, and Tencent, who have acquired smaller computer game development studios. Netflix currently offers 12 mobile games, and it is very likely that it will rely on hits from its streaming catalog in further development.
