On the opening day, February 23, 2022, Lider’s photo reporter was among the first to try the ride on the new cable car. After a 15-year break, Sljeme can now be accessed in this way. The building of the starting station is located in close proximity to the tram terminus, and there is free parking and a paid garage for those arriving by car. Each of the 84 gondolas has space for about ten passengers, equipped with ski holders and large floor-to-ceiling windows through which one can see (and photograph) Medvednica and the entire Zagreb.
On a five-kilometer route, the gondolas travel at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, passing through the intermediate station Brestovac to the top of Sljeme, covering an elevation difference of 750 meters. The entire ride lasts about 15 minutes, and the overall impression of the cable car is safety and speed. There is no swaying or creaking, just a pleasant silence that allows for enjoyment of the view.
At an altitude of 1030 meters, around the Sljeme station, a little snow can still be seen, along with many skiers who came for the much greater snow on the ski slope towards the Zagorje side of Medvednica. At the top, besides skiing and restaurants, there are no other amenities, so your photo reporter quickly returned down. On the way back, he noticed that the staff was exceptionally friendly, both due to the final commissioning and because the mayor and minister were present at the opening that day.
