The popular dating app Bumble, recently valued at over $14 billion, has acquired the French startup Fruitz. A relatively young brand in the world of digital 'dating', Fruitz is particularly popular among the younger generation and operates on a similar principle as Tinder. However, what attracts users and makes it different from others on the market are – four types of fruit (cherry, peach, watermelon, grape). Depending on what they are looking for on Fruitz (a relationship, one-night stand…), users choose from the offered fruits so there is no wasting time, it is clear what a lonely soul expects or what can be obtained from them.
Dating Disasters
This French app, launched in 2017, will continue to operate independently from Bumble, and with its help, the American dating giant will expand its user base to a younger population.
– Julian, Fabrice, and Arnaud are brilliant leaders who have managed to create a unique product and resonate excellently with audiences across Europe. The acquisition will help us expand our services and focus on enhancing the quality of human relationships worldwide – said Bumble owner Whitney Wolfe Herd.
Fruitz CEO Julian Kabab stated to the media that the app is the result of his 'catastrophic experiences with dating apps'.
– Simply put, the dear person I would meet often had completely different intentions than mine. Expressing exactly what you are looking for is not always easy, as we fear being judged. The consequence of this was that no one is honest about their intentions, wasting their own and others’ time. Our mission was to encourage users to say what it is they want – concluded Kabab, who will retain the position of CEO under Bumble’s umbrella.
