The Rovinj studio Tumpić/Prenc, which has been awarded a number of international and domestic awards for its work on developing marketing campaigns, visual identities, and packaging design, proves the thesis that great, global, and important things can also be done outside of large centers. Anselmo Tumpić and Sara Prenc Opačić founded the studio in 2017, and judging by numerous recognitions, increasing client interest, and expansion plans – their time is just beginning.
The decision to engage in design and marketing from Rovinj, rather than, for example, from Milan, where he had the opportunity to live, work, and learn directly from the greatest Italian marketing expert Gianpietro Vigorelli, was made by Anselmo Tumpić due to the quality of life and peace of mind.
– With the development of technology, the time has come when we can do this job dislocated from some large center and have interesting clients from various parts of the world, not just locally. Most of our clients are from Istria, but the plan is to be recognized not only outside Istria but also outside Croatia. It is no obstacle for us that we work from a small environment because today, when everything is online, we have the same conditions as someone in New York or London – reflects Anselmo Tumpić.
The visibility and recognition of the small Rovinj visual communications studio, whose female half currently works from Zagreb with a tendency to return to her native Rovinj, are primarily contributed by professional awards. Their project for the visual identity and internal signaling of the City Pools Pula-Pola was declared the best in Europe last year at the prestigious European Design Awards competition. International visibility was also given to them by winning gold at the European Green Award for a visual campaign that raises awareness of the problem of sea pollution with plastic. They are also proud of the most prestigious international design award – Red Dot, which they received this year for the label of Vina Šuran, whose work is based on the principle of biodynamic agriculture.
Istrian winemakers and olive oil producers, who are increasingly aware of the value and importance of top-notch design, the fact that design is the business card of their product and that a design solution differentiates them on the shelves from other similar products, are some of the clients of the Rovinj visual communications studio. Rovinj designers approach each project by always trying to find something interesting about a particular client and base the design story on that interest. An interesting story, also awarded with the Red Dot recognition, was told, for example, about the olive oil brand Latini from the hamlet of Bankovići near Svetvinčenat. They dressed the bottle of olive oil in a green checkered shirt, thus turning it into a portrait of a long-ago family ancestor, and tucked the label on which the family story is written into the pocket of the shirt.
