In the next few years, Rijeka is expected to become the nautical center of the Adriatic, as construction of our largest marina will begin in its port as soon as all necessary permits are obtained. The parking lot will soon be relocated from the Rijeka waterfront, and it is planned that the main works should start no later than 2024 and be completed within two years for both the marine and land parts of the marina.
The marina in the part of the port called Porto Baroš will change the image of Rijeka, which will evolve from a port city primarily intended for cargo traffic into a nautical port where the largest mega yachts in the world will be able to dock.
The ACI-Gitone company, which has received the concession for construction, was jointly established by Adriatic Club International (ACI) and Gitone Kvarner, owned by the German Lürssen group, best known for building the largest mega yachts in the world, and this group is also the majority owner of Liburnija Riviera Hotels. Over 30 years, the concessionaire will pay 22.2 million kuna in concession fees, along with an additional concession fee of four percent of revenue. Furthermore, Lürssen opened its shipbuilding engineering office in Rijeka this year, employing engineering staff who will support their German shipyards.
