Cartoon Characters Will Replace Us

At least a step ahead of Facebook, which wanted to show its commitment to entering the metaverse with its new name (Meta), Microsoft has already stepped into this digital space, judging by the news it flooded the public with from its virtual conference 'Ignite 2021' held on Tuesday, November 2nd.

It has been developing its path into the metaverse for years on the Mesh platform, and with the help of its augmented reality (AR) equipment, Hololens, and now it has announced that Mesh will arrive on its video call platform Teams as early as next year. The company described how its new product Mesh for Teams combines shared holographic experiences with existing communication tools such as virtual meetings, chats, and even shared documents.

Companies, i.e., video call organizers, will be able to create their own 3D branded spaces on both platforms, and video call participants will be able to appear as cute avatars resembling cartoon characters that will mimic their behavior. Microsoft also announced the product Dynamics 365 Connected Spaces, which will help companies collect data from observed activity in a specific physical space, generate insights from that data using artificial intelligence, and then respond to trends and patterns.
