FREYWILLE and the Croatian Natural History Museum, through an interesting collaboration, encourage us not to forget all the museum and cultural institutions in Croatia that suffered in the earthquakes of March 2019 and December 2020, many of which are temporarily closed and awaiting repairs. Like a sleeping beauty, the Upper Town palace Amadeo briefly opened its doors for FREYWILLE once again before the start of renovations that will give it a new look by 2023. FREYWILLE and the beautiful Elena Dizdar were led on an unforgettable walk through the abandoned rooms of the museum by Martin Glavinić, a marketing and public relations expert at the Croatian Natural History Museum. Ante Odak captured all of this through the lens of his camera in an interesting photo story through which FREYWILLE simultaneously premieres its new jewelry collection Hommage à Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Dada Dance.
Thus, FREYWILLE and the Croatian Natural History Museum take us on a journey where the only reality is the reality of our own imagination, where the past, present, and hope for a wonderful future meet, intertwining different artistic periods and forms of artistic expression. As the Dadaists would say, liberation and a journey into the unknown realm of the creative spirit. In Martin’s stories, all collections came to life, as did the spirits of the first Croatian museum curators Spiridon Brusina, Gjuro Pilar, and Dragutin Gorjanović-Kramberger, founders of various natural science disciplines and special museum specialist departments – the natural history departments of the National Museum. In the FREYWILLE jewelry collection Dada Dance, Sophie Taeuber-Arp came to life, one of the most significant representatives of abstraction in Swiss painting. Together with her husband H. Arp, she participated in the founding of the avant-garde group Dada in Zurich (1916). Her artworks can be found in many renowned museums and galleries around the world, among which stands out the wooden head of her husband “Dada” exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
