The Regulatory Agency for Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina (RAK) has begun shutting down 171 analog transmitters of TV stations in BiH, as they interfere with the introduction of the 5G network in Croatia.
– This request (from HAKOM) seeks to eliminate the interference coming from the territory of BiH that disrupts the introduction of the 5G network on specific frequency resources in Croatia – states the announcement.
It is explained that BiH was obliged to transition to digital broadcasting in accordance with the standards set by the International Telecommunication Union.
– The shutdown of analog transmitters during the calendar year 2021 in this accelerated manner is a consequence of the fact that BiH did not timely complete the implementation of the strategy for the transition to digital TV broadcasting, as its assumed and ratified international obligation – stated RAK.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has been lagging for years in the transition to digital RTV signal, and during this year, the Croatian regulator HAKOM requested RAK to prevent the continuation of broadcasting with the analog signal, as reported by the Bosnian regulator.
The agency has already informed three public RTV services and commercial TV stations about the process of shutting down the transmitters. It clarified that this involves the shutdown of 171 analog television transmitters used by a total of 26 public and commercial TV stations in BiH.
Three public RTV services were supposed to establish a joint body at the state level in order to transition to digital broadcasting. This is opposed by the authorities from the Serbian entity.
