According to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, only two and a half percent of archival material has been digitized in Croatia, placing the Croatian economy at the bottom of the list. The economy and banking sectors have digitized only 0.15 percent of archival material, but companies engaged in this work are expecting a surge as it is impossible to digitally transform business operations without digitizing the archives.
The highest percentage of archives digitized comes from religious institutions at 9.68 percent, followed by the Croatian Army with 6.92 percent of archives digitized, while culture, science, and information stand at 2.04 percent, and administration and public services at 1.15 percent.
The Croatian market for digitizing archival material has significant potential, and companies involved in this work are soon expecting greater interest from institutions and companies, as the growing awareness of the need to manage archival material is not only due to the impossibility of digitally transforming a company’s operations without digitizing the archives, but is also driven by the coronavirus pandemic and recent devastating earthquakes and floods.
According to unofficial data, there are about ten companies in Croatia engaged in archive digitization, some of which, like IT Sistema from Split, work for both domestic and foreign clients.
