Commercial accommodation facilities in June had 72 percent more tourists and 82 percent more overnight stays than in the same month last year, and although they are still lagging behind June 2019, especially with foreign tourists, they can boast about domestic tourists as there were more than in June 2019, according to DZS data.
Such increases in commercial accommodation in June this year are the result of the arrival of 1.37 million tourists and 6.5 million overnight stays, of which 45.4 percent were in commercial accommodation such as resorts and similar short-stay facilities. About 31 percent of overnight stays were recorded in camps, while 24 percent were in hotels. DZS notes that in June this year, there were still fewer tourists in these facilities than in June 2019, with arrivals at about 47 percent and overnight stays at about 50 percent of what was achieved in the record year of 2019.
However, the pandemic did not 'harm' the balance of power between foreign and domestic tourists, as traditionally, this June saw significantly more foreign tourists than domestic ones. Thus, 1.1 million foreign tourists, or 50.6 percent more than in last June, accounted for the majority of total June overnight stays or 5.6 million, which is 81 percent more than last year. There are more domestic tourists in commercial accommodation, but foreign tourists still far outnumber them.
Domestic tourists numbered 275.2 thousand, or 76.2 percent more in June this year, achieving 854.3 thousand overnight stays, or 87 percent more than in June 2020. Domestic tourists, as emphasized by DZS, also recorded increases compared to June 2019, with nearly 11 percent more arrivals this June and 5.3 percent more overnight stays.
