When the warranty expires and a household appliance breaks down, consumers should not hesitate to consider whether it is worth calling a technician or if it is cheaper to buy a new household appliance. Repair is, at least according to service technicians, always the better option, both for their pay and for sustainable development.
For consumers averse to repairs, as well as for many who try to fix broken devices themselves by watching various instructions on platforms like YouTube and iFixit, the French startup PIVR has decided to help – through video calls.
For 39 euros, PIVR connects the caller (the user of the device who has scheduled) with an experienced technician who will assist in diagnosing and – if possible – repairing the faulty washing machine, dryer, stove, oven…. Before that, the consumer needs to complete a free phone call to determine at PIVR whether they are a good candidate for resolving the issue via video conference. At the customer’s company, instructions will be provided on what tools are likely needed, and once the video call is booked, they should roll up their sleeves and listen to the experienced technician’s instructions.
