Galošić: Our goal is to open new markets in the pharmaceutical sector and integrate new acquisitions into the business

Among many recognizable names in the economic and political life of the country that will find their place at this year’s Lider’s Day of Great Plans, there will be Sergio Galošić.

In the last twelve years, this business gathering has become a hallmark of Lider’s conferences, bringing together around 4,300 participants and two hundred speakers, mostly leaders from various industries and prominent figures from political and public life. The conference, which will be held on September 29 at the Zagreb Fair, has gained the status of an unmissable political-economic event, and this year it will cover key topics such as global trends, expectations for the next year in the region, monetary and credit policy in 2022 and the introduction of the euro, fiscal policy and its effects on consumption, attracting investments and promoting exports, as well as forecasts for 2022. The head of Klimaoprema reveals what is next for the increasingly ambitious Croatian exporter who took over the German company MCRT in May, which can be considered ‘a man bites dog’ news in the Croatian context.

– We at Klimaoprema have been intensively working on a new company development strategy in 2019. We contemplated where we see ourselves in the future, which branch of industry represents, on one hand, a new market for us, and on the other hand, is complementary to our knowledge and experience gained in engineering in pharmaceutical facilities. We quickly concluded that this area is microelectronics, one of the fastest-growing markets overall. Namely, for the production of microchips, optics, and other areas of microelectronics, extremely controlled conditions are required, i.e., the highest class of clean rooms, which is certainly complementary to the business we are engaged in. When we started to intensively explore the microelectronics market, the opportunity for the acquisition of the technology company MCRT opened up, which has been producing special devices for environmental control in microelectronics production for many years and designing smaller projects that include clean rooms. In that sense, we entered into intensive negotiations and ultimately concluded a successful acquisition, enabling Klimaoprema to penetrate new challenges more quickly –  explains Galošić the logic behind the acquisition of the German company.

He states that the plans are to effectively integrate the new acquisition into the existing business and improve its overall capacities and ‘to open new markets where we have not existed so far, both in the pharmaceutical sector and in the climate program where we have had good results for several years in a row, and if new opportunities for acquisitions arise along that path, we will certainly consider such a form of further expansion’.

In addition, a large part of the company’s resources will be directed towards employees whom they consider their greatest potential, their environment, and the development of personal potentials. An unavoidable topic over the past year and a half has been the pandemic, but Galošić says it has not significantly affected revenues. On the other hand, it has greatly complicated the procurement and transport of raw materials for production and the shipment of finished products, especially at the very beginning of the pandemic, and it has disrupted the migration of employees working on projects in Europe. Nevertheless, the pandemic has accelerated the process of digital transformation of Klimaoprema’s business, so some internal projects were completed much earlier than planned, which opened the door to other opportunities.

From next year, Galošić expects the situation in Europe to finally stabilize and a vaccination rate that allows a return to normalcy.

– In the coming year, we expect the continuation of the business we had in 2021, the completion of the integration of the company MCRT, and of course the development and work with our most valuable capital, which is our employees – summarizes Galošić.
