Vertiv Donates Equipment for the Opening of a New STEM Center in Glina

The company Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global supplier of critical digital infrastructure and continuous solutions, in collaboration with the association “People for People,” has enabled the opening of the STEM Center Glina through a donation of equipment aimed at providing educational content to the youngest residents of Glina and its surroundings. The donation of classroom equipment included computers, school desks and chairs, and work supplies.

The STEM Center Glina is located on one of the streets that suffered the most damage during the earthquakes that struck Glina and its surroundings. Through creative arrangement and motivation, employees of Vertiv Croatia and volunteers from the humanitarian association 'People for People' ensured a pleasant stay and engagement of participants during learning and acquiring new experiences and knowledge.

Children now have the opportunity to enhance their technological literacy and gain new skills and experiences in their city. In the first programming workshops in the Scratch programming language, children from lower grades participated, where the workshop concluded with positive reactions from the participants. The summer course of the journalism school, as well as various themed workshops planned by the STEM center, are expected to attract public interest and will help in developing new local talents.

– Overnight, we found ourselves in a situation where we need a roof over our heads and basic necessities because the earthquake destroyed even the little that our people have in an already difficult life. We want our children in Glina and the surrounding area to live life to the fullest and have equal opportunities as their peers in the rest of Croatia. Therefore, this STEM center is the beginning of a beautiful and important story. The donation from Vertiv Croatia has greatly helped us to open the doors of the STEM center as soon as possible and enable the start of free STEM workshops immediately after the end of the school year. The STEM Center Glina is a place where children can socialize, learn, and have fun, and on this occasion, we invite children and parents to come to King Tomislav Street 6, where the STEM center is located, to meet the instructors and the workshop program and secure their place in the workshops of their interest. The STEM center is the first step in our mission to build Glina together, which will again become a place where it is nice to live – said Branka Bakšić Mitić, Deputy Mayor of Glina and project coordinator on behalf of the ‘People for People’ association.

The initiative of Vertiv Croatia led to the idea of supporting the project coordinator of the STEM center, the association “People for People,” to effectively and with a long-term positive impact on society and the community help areas that were affected by the earthquakes. Vertiv Croatia, within its corporate social responsibility, particularly encourages volunteering, which has been provided and enabled through the STEM Center Glina project.

– Vertiv has always focused on empowering and encouraging employees to participate in activities that help local communities while also providing strong support for the development of local STEM talent. As a company that employs over 200 engineers, we encourage the early development of STEM skills in young people both through this project and through collaboration with universities. Therefore, it is a great honor for us to have had the opportunity to accelerate the opening of the STEM Center Glina with this donation and to ensure that the youngest residents of Glina have a place in their city where they can learn and develop skills that will certainly benefit them in their further academic and professional careers – said Karmen Buljat, Marketing Manager for the CSE region.
