Flying cars will become a reality by 2030

By the end of this decade, according to Hyundai’s CEO Michael Cole, flying cars will become our reality. Such cars are expected to reduce pollution caused by a large number of vehicles. Hyundai has invested significant resources in urban air mobility and believes that flying cars are our future, reports The Guardian.

– We believe that by the second half of this decade, air mobility will provide an excellent opportunity to free cities from pollution and help reduce emissions, whether it is urban air mobility or intercity travel – said Cole.

Hyundai unveiled its flying car concept, developed in collaboration with ride-sharing company Uber, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2020. Hyundai is also involved in the construction of the UK’s first runway-less airport, designed for aircraft capable of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL), with the opening planned in Coventry later this year.

– The ‘urban airport’ could be used by aircraft, including air taxis and drones for autonomous delivery – said Cole.

‘A pleasant and normal’ flight

And speaking of flying cars, the prototype flying car named AirCar successfully completed its first intercity flight lasting 35 minutes, between the Slovak cities of Nitra and Bratislava, reports BBC.

The aircraft can cover a distance of 1000 kilometers, up to an altitude of 2500 meters. AirCar has flown 40 test hours so far. It takes two minutes to transform from an aircraft into a car.

AirCar, a product of Klein Vision, has been in development for about two years, and it required less than two million euros in investment to produce. The creator of AirCar, Professor Stefan Klein, described his first flight in AirCar as ‘pleasant and normal’.

Morgan Stanley already predicted in 2019 that the flying car sector could be worth 1.5 trillion dollars by 2040.
