Brodosplit has contracted the fabrication of the steel structure for the Ston Bridge and the Prapratno viaduct on the access road to the Pelješac Bridge. The transport to the construction site, as well as assembly and anti-corrosion protection, have also been contracted. This involves a total of 2580 tons of steel structure, with 200 workers engaged on this job.
The Prapratno viaduct is 215 meters long, has five spans, the largest of which is 80 meters. The entire span consists of five segments that have been constructed in large conditioned halls and will be transported by sea, significantly enhancing the quality and durability of such a structure compared to the fabrication of several smaller segments. One segment is 41 meters long and weighs 107.50 tons, while the other is 37.16 meters long and weighs 85.15 tons.
Given the knowledge, experience, and equipment available, this is a relatively simple project for Brodosplit.
From the Split shipyard, the segments of the viaduct will be delivered to Prapratno by the ferry ‘Krk’, and then transported from the port to the installation site using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) with high load capacity. Once delivered, the segments will be installed using a special hydraulic system pulling method.
Brodosplit has already proven itself in similar projects such as the construction of components for the bridge on corridor Vc near Osijek, as well as the construction of the Čiovo Bridge, for which we built, delivered, and installed the span structure in record time. With the Ston Bridge and Prapratno viaduct project, Brodosplit continues to position itself in the market niche of large steel structures.
