Croatia expects to become a member of the Eurozone at the beginning of 2023 and intends to meet all necessary criteria, stated Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Friday in Brussels.
On Friday, Brussels hosted the second day of the European leaders’ summit, during which an inclusive Eurozone summit will also take place.
– This is an opportunity to once again express readiness to meet all criteria and that after entering the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM II) last year, we fulfill the action plan and create the prerequisites for Croatia to become a member of the Eurozone during 2023 – stated Plenković.
He added that he would present a calendar at the Eurozone summit regarding Croatia’s expectations for entering the area of the common currency “considering all the achievements made in implementing the strategy for introducing the euro from 2018 to the present”.
On Friday, the leaders of the member states began discussions on the economic recovery from the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
Prime Minister Plenković said he expects the European Commission to approve Croatia’s national recovery and resilience plan during the next month, after which the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen would visit Zagreb to personally hand over the Commission’s green light for this plan worth 6.3 billion euros in non-repayable funds.
