On Friday, June 18, 2021, at the age of 71, the esteemed Professor Dr. Slavko Krajcar (born 1951) passed away, as reported on the pages of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb.
Professor Dr. Slavko Krajcar made an exceptional contribution to the development of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, of which he was the dean from 1998 to 2002, after which he served as the head of his home Department of High Voltage and Energy from 2002 to 2006, and he will remain in our lasting memory as a respected scientist, expert, and colleague.
Dr. Slavko Krajcar was born on January 14, 1951, in Krajcar Brijeg – the municipality of Žminj. He completed primary school in Sv. Petar u Šumi and secondary technical school in Pula. In 1969, he enrolled in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Zagreb, which he completed in the autumn of 1973. After finishing his studies, he was employed at the Department of High Voltage and Energy of what was then the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. He obtained his master’s degree in 1980 with the thesis “Design of Distribution Networks Based on Load Forecasting as a Random Process” (mentor Professor Dr. Milan Šodan), and he earned his doctorate in 1988 with the thesis “Algorithms for Interactive Optimal Planning of Distribution Networks” (mentor Professor Dr. Milan Šodan). He has been involved in scientific and teaching work since January 1, 1974, initially as an assistant in the group of subjects “Electric Power Production.” In 1990, he was elected to the scientific-teaching title of assistant professor, in 1992 he was re-elected to the same title, in 1997 he was elected to the title of associate professor, in 2002 to the title of full professor, and in 2007 to the title of full professor in permanent tenure, all at the Department of High Voltage and Energy of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Zagreb, or since 1995, the University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. He spent his entire working life at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing for over 46 years.
He was a mentor for 86 master’s theses and 39 final theses, mentored 10 candidates who obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Science, and 14 candidates in the preparation of scientific master’s theses.
He held invited lectures, gave interviews, and wrote columns on the topic of education, especially the education of engineers for the 21st century.
He participated in many domestic projects in science or for the needs of the economy, as well as in international scientific and professional projects. In the list of projects after 2000 alone, that number exceeds fifty, of which he was the leader of 36. Additionally, there are nearly a hundred scientific and professional projects from the beginning of his work until 2000. He was one of the leaders in the development of the Energy Strategy of Croatia (which was adopted by the Parliament in 2010) and the Energy Efficiency Strategy (2008), as well as implementation plans until the adoption of new strategies (2008 – 2020).
