Within three years, a battery insert manufacturing plant for electric cars, Sunceco Battery, is expected to be built in Sisak. It will cover an area of 35,000 square meters and employ 350 people. The production will be highly automated, and the project’s value is estimated at 220 million euros. The project is led by Matt Darko Sertić, director of Applied Ceramics and Sunceco, as well as the initiator of the Sisak Entrepreneurial Incubator (PISAK) and the Culinary Institute in Sisak.
– Our goal is to start the production of battery inserts for electric cars in Sisak. They are currently produced in five companies worldwide; only one is in the United States, while the others are in Asia. There is a hunger for these products. The European Union has realized that we cannot depend on Asian suppliers and that such production is necessary here – said Matt Darko Sertić while guesting on the show 'Entrepreneurial Mindset' of the media platform Poduzetnik.
He believes in the new project as much as he believes in the technology for microchip production that he brought from Silicon Valley to Croatia.
– The semiconductor industry has been rapidly developing, and to be part of that picture, there was pressure in Silicon Valley that we need to open production in Europe. Now, Applied Ceramics in Sisak has 135 employees, and Sunceco, a company engaged in solar panel production, has about thirty. The Culinary Institute has about ten, and PISAK has over two hundred employees and 34 incubated companies. Our goal is to develop various business stories, and employment is a consequence of all that – emphasized Sertić.
