How to choose a new property, what construction requirements need to be considered, how Zagreb and Petrinja will look in the future, and why the earthquake shook the real estate insurance market are the topics of the first episode of the program Coordination, which has been airing on YouTube since May 21. This is a specialized monthly program about construction that brings current topics and discussions with leading Croatian experts, scientists, and engineers.
In addition to field reports, the first episode also features an interview with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Josip Atalić from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Zagreb.
– The most common and most detrimental savings in earthquake-resistant construction is saving on materials. In addition, there is the problem of non-compliance with the profession, as the earthquakes in Zagreb and Petrinja confirmed that those buildings designed correctly withstood the earthquake – emphasizes Atalić, adding that the goal in designing buildings is not to prevent them from swaying during an earthquake, but to limit damage and preserve human life.
